A LITTLE HISTORY
KENTUCKY’S FIRST AND FIFTH GOVERNOR
The Shelby Cottage is named for Isaac Shelby, who served in the Revolutionary War where he played a pivotal role in the Battle of King’s Mountain. After the war, he settled in Lincoln County at Traveler’s Rest and became involved in Kentucky’s efforts to separate from Virginia and achieve statehood. He was elected Kentucky’s first and fifth governor.
